Audit: Matthews School District’s Resource Officer Owes School $1000

Tuesday, February 25, 2020

Columbus – Auditor of State Keith Faber today released the 2019 audit of Matthews Local School District, which details that the district’s resource officer, Michael Sheehy, stole $1,000 from the athletic department’s petty cash fund.

“Petty cash accounts are not personal ATMs,” Auditor Faber said. “Those funds belong to students and tax payers who deserve to be repaid.”

Sheehy was a township police officer from Vienna Township, which the district hired to be their resource officer.

Auditor Faber issued a finding for recovery for $1,000 against Sheehy and in favor of the district, since Sheehy has yet to make restitution for the theft.
