Press Release Ohio Auditor of State

Audit Reports Unauthorized Payments to Former Murray City Fiscal Officer

Tuesday, January 15, 2019

Columbus – A state audit released today reports unauthorized pay of $6,100 to a former Village of Murray City (Hocking County) fiscal officer who is facing theft charges.

Bridget Wolfe was indicted Sept. 7 on felony charges of theft and theft in office. Court records show she is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 24 at the Hocking County Common Pleas Court.

Village council authorized Wolfe to receive 12 monthly payments of $350 beginning in November 2015 for a total of $4,200. But she was instead paid $10,300 during the period, an overpayment of $6,100.

The excess amount was traced to 15 unauthorized checks made payable to Wolfe and deposited into her personal bank account. She repaid $6,100 to the village in January 2017.

The village removed her from her position as fiscal officer on Nov. 22, 2016.
