Performance Audit Identifies $2.8 million in Potential Savings for Middletown City Schools

Thursday, April 9, 2015

Columbus – Nearly $3 million in potential annual savings were identified at Middletown City School District (Butler County), according to a performance audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

Although Middletown City School District is at, or below, peer staffing levels for some staffing categories, auditors determined it employs more personnel than its peers in the general education teacher, education service personnel and other certificated staff categories. Reducing these staffing categories to peer levels could save the district $2,808,300 annually.

The district also could save $91,400 per year by reducing sick-leave severance payouts from up to 64.1 unused days, to the state minimum requirement of 30 unused days.

The Ohio Department of Education requested this performance audit. The audit can be found online.
