State of Ohio Single Audit Shows Drastic Drop in Questioned Costs
Columbus – The 2014 State of Ohio Single Audit identified a 96 percent drop in the state’s federal questioned costs from the previous year, according to a report released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.
“Ohio’s state government nearly eliminated its federal questioned costs,” Auditor Yost said. “That doesn’t happen by chance. Governor Kasich and the entire state administration have helped prevent millions of tax dollars from going down the drain.”
Ohio’s federal questioned costs dropped 96 percent, from $859,326 in fiscal year (FY) 2013, to $35,599 in FY 2014. The state administered 357 federal programs from 23 federal agencies, with total federal expenditures of $25.2 billion last year. Questioned costs are expenditures of federal funds that lack proper documentation, violate federal law or are determined to be unreasonable.
In addition to the 96 percent drop in questioned costs from last year, the above graph illustrates the state’s questioned costs from FY 2010 to FY 2014.
