State of Ohio Single Audit Shows Continued Improvement
Columbus – Ohio continues to show significant improvement in its single audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost. The audit identifies 33 findings involving 11 state agencies with questioned costs of federal funds. Questioned costs totaled $859,326, compared to $3.55 million in FY 2012 and $8.3 million in FY 2011.
“Ohio has made a ninety percent reduction to its questioned costs in two years,” Auditor Yost said. “State government is running substantially tighter and cleaner than it did just two years ago.”
The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services is responsible for $787,942 (92%) of the state’s questioned costs. Questioned costs are expenditures of federal funds that lack necessary documentation, violate federal law or are determined to be unreasonable expenses.
Federal law requires an annual audit of the State’s federal financial assistance programs. In FY 2013, the state administered 368 federal programs from 24 federal agencies with total federal expenditures of $24.7 billion.
