Press Release Ohio Auditor of State

Statement from Auditor of State Dave Yost

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Columbus – The following statement may be attributed to Auditor of State Dave Yost concerning the resignation of Fairfield County Clerk of Courts Deborah Smalley:

“This simplifies things for the people of Fairfield County, but it does not end our work,” Auditor Yost said.  “We will press for a full accounting and for justice.”

Auditor of State Assistant Legal Counsel Robert Smith was appointed special prosecutor in the case on July 23, 2013.  The Auditor of State’s office received information from a former clerk of courts employee in June 2013 and launched a special audit into Smalley’s actions in August 2013.  The special audit is ongoing.
