Columbus – A former staff accountant stole more than $26,000 from the Fayette County Memorial Hospital according to an audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

“This was a theft against the people of Fayette County, and her sentence reflects the seriousness of that crime,” Auditor Yost said.  “Proper internal controls can help to prevent these types of thefts from occurring in the first place.”

From July 1, 2009 through January 31, 2013, the hospital found that former Staff Accountant Kimberly Crabtree made four unauthorized payments to herself totaling $17,410.  In addition, the hospital found that she wrote a $9,284 check to a company called CP&S.  The check was endorsed by Michael Crabtree, Kimberly Crabtree’s husband.  A finding for recovery in the total amount of $26,694 was issued against Kimberly Crabtree.

In March 2013, Crabtree was charged with and later pled guilty to charges of tampering with evidence, tampering with records, and theft.  On July 1, 2013, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
