Audit Issues $2,013 Finding for Recovery Against Mayors Court Clerk

Columbus – An audit report covering fiscal years 2016 and 2017 released today by Auditor of State Keith Faber issues a finding for recovery against Teresa Holisinger, Mayors Court Clerk for the Village of Coolville in Athens County.

In the review of the village’s financials, state auditors found that Holisinger had collected but did not account for $2,013 of village funds.

“As Ohio’s chief compliance officer, it is my responsibility to hold officials accountable for the way they spend public dollars,” Auditor Faber remarked. “That is why I have issued a finding for recovery against this clerk – so that taxpayers get back the money they’re owed.”

In her role as clerk, Holisinger was responsible for collecting and depositing funds due to the village for fines, forfeitures, and miscellaneous fees. State auditors found that documents maintained by the village indicated a $2,013 shortage in the account compared to the amount collected by Holisinger

On Nov. 1, 2017, Holisinger returned $464 to the village, identified as Mayors Court fees that had been received but not deposited. Additionally, on Apr. 8, 2019, Holisinger made restitution of $1,549 to the village.

The Auditor’s office considers this finding repaid under audit.
