Cuyahoga County Medicaid Provider Overpaid by $64,000
Columbus– Caretenders of Cleveland, Inc., a Medicare certified home health agency, was overpaid by more than $64,000, according to an audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.
“The only way to know if a service was provided after the fact is to have documentation,” Auditor Yost said. “It’s more than just paperwork.”
The audit reviewed a statistical sample of 1,530 services, which identified 22 instances of non-compliance. Caretenders of Cleveland, Inc. billed for 17 services without supporting documentation and one unauthorized service. Four services were overbilled.
An additional test of 33 services found 16 instances where the provider billed for home health care services while recipients were hospital inpatients.
These errors resulted in a total overpayment of $64,271.81. With interest in the amount of $5,917.41, a total of $70,189.22 is owed to Ohio Medicaid.
Caretenders of Cleveland, Inc. received a total reimbursement of more than $15 million during the audit period of January 1, 2009 – June 30, 2011.
