Providence Home Health Care Overpaid by Ohio Medicaid
Columbus – A Cuyahoga County based Medicaid provider was overpaid by more than $7,000, according to a 2008-2010 audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.
“It’s about attention to detail,” Auditor Yost said. “No details – no cash.”
The audit reviewed 426 home health nursing services as well as 1,003 home health aide services and identified 353 errors, resulting in an overpayment of $1,161.73. The review found 315 services in which the plan of care did not contain the date of the physician’s review, as required. Also, 19 services had no documentation to support the service billed and 18 services had no plan of care covering the date of service.
Additionally, the audit found the provider was overpaid for 1,508 personal care aide units. Units are 15-minute increments used for billing purposes. The provider was overpaid for eight of these units, and the other 1,500 units were not authorized by an all services plan. The total overpayment is $5,952.24.
The audit determined Providence Home Health Care was overpaid by $7,113.97. With interest in the amount of $666.37, the total amount owed to Ohio Medicaid is $7,780.34.
The provider responded that its assets were sold on December 31, 2011, and the agency is currently being operated by a new owner.
