| Service Explanation: | Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District was founded in 1968 as a voluntary organization of local government political subdivisions. Located within the rolling hills of Appalachia and bordered by The Ohio River in Southeastern Ohio, it serves Athens, Hocking, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry, and Washington Counties. Buckeye Hills serves as an LDD for the Appalachian Regional Commission and as an EDD for the US Dept. of Commerce Economic Development Administration. We also serve as the Ohio Public Works Commission District 18, including Belmont and Muskingum Counties. We administer the CDBG program for Washington County and CDBG water/sewer project across the region. Buckeye Hills coordinates a Geographic Information Services (GIS) program for small communities and administers a 12-county BizNet Business Retention Network.
Buckeye Hills administers the Area Agency on Aging 8 including its Medicaid PASSPORT, CHOICEs and Assisted Living waivers as well as conducts the USDA Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, the CMS Community Care Transitions Program and a Housing program (funded by the Housing Assistance Grant, the Senior Community Services Block Grant and the USDA Rural Housing Service). The region’s Older Americans Act services, a caregiver advocacy program and the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program for region 8 are also coordinated by AAA8. The Ohio Dept. of Aging also officially designated AAA8 as the SE Ohio Aging & Disability Resource Network.

| Objective Statement: | Our Mission: Buckeye Hills will improve the socioeconomic conditions of the region by promoting the interests and needs of our constituents to persons and agencies empowered to create positive change.
The Buckeye Hills staff works hard to serve the now more than 260,000 residents in the district, including nearly 45,000 senior citizens. We strengthen local communities by leveraging the resources and expertise necessary to prepare strategies for a broad range of local and regional issues.
We engage public and private sector leaders and promote accountability to ensure public resources are used efficiently and effectively, while addressing local priorities and promoting regional strategies.
Over the past 44 years, Buckeye Hills has secured over $500 million for education, health care, infrastructure improvements, training, economic and community development and social service projects in communities across the eight counties.
Buckeye Hills continues to represent stakeholder values in the state and federal public policy and funding environments. With support from many, we work to impact public policy, provide ongoing input to legislators about the area’s needs and alert community leaders when their support on key issues is critical.
